Hilton Hotels Corporation hired Lawrence Adams of Mathes Brierre Architects to evaluate five sites in Midtown Manhattan for locating their urban flagship Hilton Grand Vacation Clubs. One of the sites evaluated was the famed Algonquin Hotel which, upon detailed analysis, was deemed unfeasible by Adams. Adams generated conceptual plans for a site on West 57th Street that convinced Hilton to move forward. Adams’s plans utilized a unique solution of elevator positioning that allowed for the guest corridor to flip to the back on upper floors as the building setback for zoning, thereby providing sufficient space for the timeshare units facing Central Park and rendering the project feasible.
